Definition
Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, is used to correct errors or make changes to a previously filed Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR. Common reasons include reporting income that was missed, changing filing status, adding or removing dependents, or claiming credits or deductions that were overlooked. Amended returns can now be filed electronically for the current and two prior tax years.
