Greenback Expat Tax Alternatives

Compare fees, filing scope and engagement terms before choosing a provider.

Disclosure: Zenith Financial Advisors publishes this guide and is one of the providers discussed. This is not an independent ranking. Source checks are dated September 23, 2026; confirm current terms directly before engaging a provider.

Start with the work you need: current or prior-year returns, foreign-account reports, additional forms and any country-specific advice. Compare a written scope and total fee from each provider. Names you may wish to research alongside Greenback include Bright!Tax, CPAs for Expats, MyExpatTaxes, Taxes for Expats and Zenith; inclusion here is not a quality ranking or an endorsement.

For a broader shortlist, use our US expat tax service comparison checklist to compare included forms, fees, preparer access and service terms.

Greenback's published fees: a starting point for quotes

Greenback lists the following fees on its services page. These are separate services, not a complete quote for every taxpayer.

ServicePublished fee and scope
Federal return preparationUS$565; additional services may cost extra.
FBARUS$125 for up to five accounts; US$60 for each additional group of five accounts.
Tax-advice consultationStarts at US$250; confirm the scope before booking.

Compare included work, not just the headline fee

MyExpatTaxes lists FBAR and FATCA as included in its Base plan. Check coverage for your selected plan; do not assume every plan has the same inclusions. Source: MyExpatTaxes plan details, read September 23, 2026.

For Zenith, review our published plans and included services, then request confirmation of the total fee and engagement terms for your situation.

  • Identify each return and report required, and ask which are included in the quote.
  • Confirm who prepares, reviews and signs the return, their credentials and how you can contact them.
  • Ask about relevant country and account experience without assuming it from a firm's size or marketing labels.
  • Confirm deadlines, additional charges, document-transfer arrangements and support after filing.

Behind on filing? Check eligibility before buying a package

Streamlined Foreign Offshore relief requires non-willful conduct, the applicable non-residency test and other IRS eligibility conditions; qualifying submissions cover three years of returns and six years of FBARs, with tax and interest due. Previously assessed penalties are not abated.

Check review evidence separately

Read the underlying review, its date and which service it describes. Separate a provider's published testimonials from third-party reviews. This guide does not assign review scores or certify reviews as independent.

You can read Zenith's published client testimonials as one source; they are not a substitute for independent review research.

Questions before switching

Why compare alternatives to Greenback?
Compare providers if you want to check total fees, included forms, access to your preparer or support for your particular filing requirements. Confirm the same scope with every provider; this guide does not establish that one firm is better for you.
Which alternative is cheapest?
A lowest-price claim requires quotes for the same work, currency and tax years. Software and professional preparation are different service models. Check additional forms, account limits, review support and consultation fees before comparing totals.
What should Americans in Canada ask before switching?
Ask whether the engagement covers the US return, the Canadian return or both, who handles each, and what treaty or account-reporting analysis is included. Obtain written confirmation rather than assuming a provider's country guide proves the scope of its services.
Should I stay with my current preparer?
Review your existing engagement, total fee, communication and coverage against your current requirements. Before switching, confirm the new engagement's scope, deadlines and how prior records will be transferred.
